Monaco survive French Cup scare

PARIS - Monaco needed penalties to knock out second division Tours in the French Cup round of 64 on a freezing Saturday with a host of postponements.

The Ligue 1 sides were entering the competition and Monaco almost became the first top-flight club to bow out, surviving a few scares in a match that ended 0-0 after extra-time.

Monaco then won the shootout 4-3, Tours missing the target with one penalty and having another saved by France under-21 keeper Stephane Ruffier.

Several matches were called off because of wintry conditions, among them the visit of second-placed Ligue 1 side Lille to fourth division Colmar.
