OSLO - Norway extended Egil Olsen's temporary contract as national team coach on Tuesday for the remainder of the 2010 World Cup qualifiers. "What we have seen so far is basis enough to say that Egil Olsen will be national coach throughout the World Cup qualifiers," Sondre Kaafjord, president of Norway's football association, said in a statement. Norway are bottom of Group Nine with two points from three matches after failing to win a match last year. Olsen took Norway to the World Cup finals in 1994 and 1998 and to second place in the FIFA rankings, but was sometimes criticised for employing defensive tactics. Following his surprise comeback in January, Olsen has led Norway to a friendly win in Germany and a loss in South Africa on Saturday. Norway face Finland in a friendly on Wednesday in Oslo's Ullevaal stadium, where Olsen has not lost with the national team since 1991.
