Peterborough quiet on Ferguson sack stories

Peterborough United officials have refused to comment on reports suggesting manager Darren Ferguson - son of Manchester United supremo Sir Alex - has been sacked at London Road.

The 37-year-old Scot has guided The Posh - backed by wealthy chairman Darragh MacAnthony - to back-to-back promotions from Leagues Two and One respectively in 2007 and 2008.

But United have struggled to hold their own in the second tier, winning just two of their opening 16 Championship fixtures, with Saturday's 3-1 defeat at top-of-the-table Newcastle sending them bottom of the standings.

As a result, speculation has surfaced claiming Ferguson has been relieved of his duties at London Road.

However, the club have refused to either confirm or deny the reports, with Director of Football Barry Fry and Chief Executive Officer Bob Symms remaining tight-lipped when leaving the club's headquarters on Monday evening, according to the Peterborough Evening Telegraph.
