Redknapp expecting summer bids for Bentley

England midfielder David Bentley’s future at Tottenham Hotspur has been thrown into doubt after manager Harry Redknapp admitted he cannot see a place for the midfielder in his team. The former Blackburn man moved to White Hart Lane last summer for £15 million under then-manager Juande Ramos and has since failed to hold down a consistent place in Spurs' first-team line-up. The 24 year-old has not started a league game since the end of January and, with the performances of Aaron Lennon continuing to impress, Redknapp admits Bentley’s current chances of first-team football are limited. “It’s hard for David, it’s just Aaron’s been playing great for us," he said. "I’ve got to pick a team that I feel will get a result. I’ve got to be truthful, I hope that Aaron keeps playing well and I don’t have to change it. “From David’s point of view it’s been a disappointing season, but he’s not played the same as he did at Blackburn here. He’s been unlucky that Aaron’s been playing so well, and there’s noting we can do about it really.” Redknapp reiterated that he would like to keep the squad he has at the moment together, despite admitting that he expects interest in the out-of-favour midfielder at the end of the season. “Teams know what he can do and I’m sure that it’s a possibility that we will get offers," he said. "But I’m happy with the squad. I’m not thinking that I want to see the back of him.

“It’s a squad game and David’s not the only one in that position. He wants to play and that’s what it’s all about - competition.”
