Reid dismisses Southampton speculation

BANGKOK - Former England midfielder Peter Reid has rejected speculation he will quit as coach of Thailand to take charge of English League One club Southampton, Thai newspapers reported on Tuesday.

The former Manchester City, Leeds and Sunderland boss, who played for Southampton in the 1993-94 season is under contract until 2012 with Thailand, which is his first national team job.

With only two defeats in 13 competitive games in charge, Reid has been a big hit with Thai fans, players and the media and says he is in no rush to return to England.

"I know nothing about the reports, they were just speculation from England," Reid was quoted as saying by the Bangkok Post. "I'm happy to remain head coach of the Thai national team."
