Rooney on bench for CSKA clash

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney was named on the substitutes' bench for the Red Devils' Champions League clash with CSKA Moscow, following the birth of his first child on Monday.

The England international was expected to sit out the European showdown at Old Trafford after his son, Kai Wayne Rooney, arrived on Monday afternoon.

However, the 24-year-old expressed his desire to participate, with manager Sir Alex Ferguson opting to pair Michael Owen and Federico Macheda up front from the start.

The Premier League champions need just a point to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition, while victory could guarantee them top spot.
