Rubin defender Sharonov out for six months

MOSCOW - Rubin Kazan defender Roman Sharonov will be out of action for at least six months after undergoing knee surgery in Germany, the player said on Saturday.

"Doctors who performed surgery told me that I must wait at least six months before resuming training," the 33-year-old, who damaged knee ligaments in last month's Champions League match against Dynamo Kiev, was quoted as saying by local media.

Russian champions Rubin were drawn against Israel's Hapoel Tel Aviv in the last 32 of the Europa League on Friday after finishing third in their Champions League group behind Barcelona and Inter Milan.
