Potential new Everton signing Phillipe Senderos will not be signed to replace England international Joleon Lescott, according to a club source. The Toffees revealed on Tuesday that they were in talks with Arsenal over the signing of the Swiss international, who spent last season on loan at AC Milan. However, the news has only intensified speculation that Senderos' arrival will signal the exit of star stopper Lescott, who has already been the subject of two big-money bids from cash-rich Manchester City. Mark Hughes' Blues have seen offers of £15 million and £18 million rejected by the Goodison Park outfit, with City being tipped to make a third bid of around £20 million for the former Wolves defender's services. However, an Everton club source has since denied the reports, insisting Senderos' arrival would only strengthen the Merseyside outfit's back-line, rather than fill the void left by Lescott.
