South Africa to play Denmark at Soccer City

JOHANNESBURG - South Africa will play fellow World Cup finalists Denmark at Soccer City on June 5, less than a week before the start of the tournament, officials confirmed on Friday.

The World Cup hosts will complete their pre-tournament preparations with the match at the new 95,000-capacity stadium, where South Africa meet Mexico in the opening match of the month-long tournament on June 11.

Coach Carlos Alberto Parreira told Reuters he wanted his players to get a taste of the expected fevered atmosphere ahead of the match against the Mexicans.

South Africa play neighbours Namibia in another warm-up match next Wednesday but will rest a majority of their established internationals for the Durban encounter to give fringe players a chance to stake a claim for a place in the squad.
