Stuart Pearce overrules Wenger on Walcott

England U21 manager Stuart Pearce has defended the national side's use of Theo Walcott as "perfect" - despite Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger's concerns over burnout. The young wideman has combined duties for both England's under-21 and senior side – much to the consternation of Arsene Wenger, who fears his young charge will suffer. Pearce, whose side enjoyed a 7-0 victory over Azerbaijan last night, believes that Walcott is exactly where he should be.  "Theo is part of the Under-21s," he told a conference today. "I wouldn't want to say to Capello 'Leave him out of the seniors', as the perfect scenario is to play in both." Whereas Wenger believes Walcott is deserving of a holiday after Arsenal's gruelling end to the season, Pearce believes the winger's mid-season break in which he was injured for five months was enough respite. "He [Walcott] thinks the tournament would be fantastic for him; he's never played in a major international tournament. I spoke to Wenger, and credit to him he didn't agree, he said it should be one or the other. I respect his view, but we don't agree. Theo wants to be a part of both squads," he concluded.
