Stuttgart to rival Spurs for Doumbia

Tottenham Hotspur could face stiff competition from German side VfB Stuttgart for the signature of Ivory Coast striker Seydou Doumbia, according to reports.

Swiss newspaper Blick claims the highly-rated Young Boys hitman is top of the German side’s January shopping list.

Christian Gross was appointed as Stuttgart’s new manager following a disastrous start to the campaign and the ex-Spurs boss is desperate to add reinforcements during the transfer window.

However, it is believed the 21-year-old would favour a move to the Premier League and Doumbia has recently been linked with a move to Tottenham.

The highly-rated Young Boys of Berne hitman – valued at €12 million – took the Swiss top-flight by storm last season and sensationally scored 20 goals despite starting just eight league games.

And as a result, several Italian clubs are also reportedly keen to sign the explosive Ivorian, who is tipped to partner Chelsea front-man Didier Drogba at next summer’s World Cup.

Doumbia has continued his rich vein of goalscoring form with 16 goals in 17 appearances during the current campaign.
