SuperSport win South African title

PRETORIA - SuperSport United won the South African Premier League title on Wednesday for a third successive season even though they lost their penultimate game.

The Pretoria-based side were beaten 2-1 by Wits University but a loss for second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns meant SuperSport kept up a four-point lead at the top of the table with one round of matches to come.

Sundowns, coached by former European Footballer of the Year Hristo Stoichkov, let their challenge slip with a 2-0 loss to bottom club Jomo Cosmos.

Both SuperSport United and Sundowns qualify for next year's African Champions League.
