MADRID - Antonio Tapia quit as Malaga coach after leading the club to eighth place in the Primera Liga, their second best finish ever. "I will not be the coach of the team next season," Tapia told a news conference on Sunday after Malaga lost 3-0 at Espanyol in their final match of the season. "We have had a great campaign and I think it's the ideal moment to bring this cycle to a close," he added. Tapia was promoted from reserve team coach when Gregorio Manzano was sacked in January 2005 and moved on halfway through the 2005-06 season before the club were relegated. He returned again this term and eighth spot equalled their result in the 2000-01 season and was one short of their best finish of seventh in the 1970s.
