Wenger makes Chamakh contact

Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud says he has received a telephone call from Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger regarding striker Marouane Chamakh. The Moroccan international, who has netted 15 time for his country, has been the subject of one of the longest running transfer sagas of the summer. Chamakh, whose 13 goals last season helped secure a first league title in 10 years for les Girondins, has made no secret of his desire to leave the Stade Chaban Delmas, with the player claiming to have agreed terms with Sunderland, Fulham, Blackburn Rovers and Tottenham Hotspur. Bordeaux boss Laurent Blanc has since insisted that he will not allow his prize asset to depart for the Stadium of Light, as he does not consider the Wearsiders to be a big enough club. However, the former Manchester United defender will not be able to lodge a similar claim against the Gunners should they make a move the forward, after president Triaud revealed he has been in contact with the Emirates Stadium outfit's manager. "Wenger has called me," he told L'Equipe. "He told me he has a list of forwards and Marouane is one of the names on it. "However, I expect this could be a complex case which could become a soap opera."
