17 Apr 2012 – LionsXII 5-0 Selangor PKNS (MSL)

It was the LionsXII’s first ever big victory in the Malaysia Super League (MSL) as they showcased their set-piece expertise with four out of the five goals resulting from dead ball situations.

Safuwan Baharudin bundled Shaiful Esah’s inswinging free kick into the net on 17 minutes to give the Singaporeans the lead, before the latter fired straight in from 25 yards out two minutes later.

Sevki Sha’ban then headed home Shahdan Sulaiman’s corner before the half-hour mark was up to put the LionsXII into a commanding 3-0 lead. Agu Casmir completed the rout with a second-half brace to ensure the majority of the 7,139 fans got their tickets’ worth.

6 Jun 2012 - LionsXII 9-0 Sabah FA (MSL)

The LionsXII class of 2012 displayed some swashbuckling football throughout the season, epitomised by this incredible mauling of beleaguered Sabah – a result that remains till date the biggest victory in their four-year history.

Agu Casmir opened the floodgates by tapping home from close range on 19 minutes, before captain-on-the-day Hariss Harun took centre stage by thumping home a half-cleared corner and then finishing off his own superb solo run to put the Singaporeans three up at the break.

V Sundramoorthy’s side continued to pile on the pressure in the second half and were rewarded with five goals in the final 28 minutes.

Shahdan Sulaiman produced a cheeky lob over Sabah keeper Irwan Jamil before slotting in Juma’at Jantan’s ball across the six-yard box. Irwan Shah then tapped home Agu’s teasing right wing cross, before Hariss completed his hat-trick by squeezing Shaiful Esah’s cross just inside the post.

There was still time for two more goals late on, with Sufian Anuar connecting with Shaiful’s free kick and Shahdan Sulaiman forcing Shahrul Azhar to turn the ball into his own net.
