Ancelotti believes Chelsea have pulled off a coup with Morata signing

Bayern Munich manager Carlo Ancelotti was of the opinion that his former club Chelsea have done very well with the signing of Spain international Álvaro Morata.

The talented striker signed for the English champions just last week after being deemed surplus to requirements at European champions Real Madrid, despite scoring 15 goals last season.

Having had Morata under his tutelage when he was in charge of Real Madrid, Ancelotti believed the potential in Morata is immense.

Morata is a fantastic striker (and) young, and I think Chelsea have a really good signing

“Morata is a fantastic striker (and) young and I think Chelsea have a really good signing; he’s a player that can help the team be better,” Ancelotti raved to reporters at the Singapore International Champions Cup press conference on Monday.

“He’s a complete striker, he can play in different positions. In my time in Real Madrid, he played central striker sometimes, sometimes on the side. In all positions, he’s a really good signing, he works a lot for the team also.”

With Chelsea and the other Premier League teams heavily strengthening their squads this season, Ancelotti said that the Champions League should be more competitive this year.

Last year, only unfancied Leicester City progressed to the quarter-finals of the tournament from the English contingent, where they were dumped out by Atletico Madrid.

“In the last Champions League, the Premier League teams had problems but I think this year they have really good teams.

“Chelsea, Tottenham, Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City. I think the Champions League with these teams will be more competitive this year.”
