Despite hanging up his boots 19 years ago, it seems Captain Marvel’s star has not waned just yet. Kenneth Tan popped down to the Courts Megastore last weekend with photographer Kamthorn Pornsakulpaisal to see the United legend in the flesh...

Courts x SG 50: Bryan Robson Meet & Greet

Fans had started flocking to the Courts Megastore an hour before Bryan Robson's scheduled appearance, as registration began at 1pm. There was no sign of the United legend yet, so host Jamie Yeo gamely posed for the FFT cameras before the event kicked off. To accommodate the wait for Robson, Yeo actively engaged the crowd with a few questions regarding Captain Marvel and gave out United memorabilia in the process!

Here’s the first man in the queue – Brendan Yip! 26-year-old Yip has been waiting since 9am, an hour before the store officially opened, to catch a glimpse of the legend. But wait... He's not even a United fan!

"I’m not really a fan of United, I watch English football in general. But since it’s not everyday a legend come down to Singapore, I thought ‘why not, just come down here and try my luck? I was not born yet when Robson was playing, but I’ve heard of his reputation as one of the best ever players to play for the Red Devils."

Meanwhile 44-year-old store manager David Yeo was absolutely ecstatic to meet his childhood hero for the first time in 13 years.

"I first met him in 2002 – it was an invitation event by ESPN," he recalls vividly.

"I’ve supported him and United since 1982 – I was only 12 at that time. Robson was my childhood idol; he was always in superb form and helped us to win our first Premier League title in 1993. It was just a pity that he had a lot of injuries in his career. If not, he would have gone on to achieve a century of caps for his country."

Tan Kok Wee won a pass to the meet-and-greet courtesy of participating in FourFourTwo’s online competition. The 43-year-old training and development manager believes no United player can come close to matching Robson's legacy as a football player.

"It’s difficult to find another player like him," said the man who has been a United supporter since 1988.

"So far there are some that come close, but it won’t be easy. Actually when you come to think of it, honours did not actually come for United during his playing time. It’s more of his contribution as an individual which includes captaining the English national team. All in all, I’m delighted to finally meet the legend, thank you FourFourTwo for the opportunity!"

Last but not least, Haslinda was one of the handful of ladies in the crowd. The 29-year-old finance assistant is a United fan of 20 years and managed to convince her Liverpool-supporting husband to come for the event.

"This is my first time seeing the legend and he’s much more handsome in real life!"
