Euro 2016: FFT's Singapore Bulletin, Day 6

There were just the two games overnight to complete the first full round of matches. Hungary stunned Austria, while Iceland then did the same to Portugal and Cristiano Ronaldo. Find out about the overnight action and games next up below...

Minnows make a statement

Of all the teams garnering headlines heading into Euro 2016, Hungary certainly weren't one of them.

Lacking the star power afforded other teams, the Hungarians only scraped into the main draw via a playoff victory over Norway and were tipped to struggle against Austria and Portugal in Group F.

It took just 25 second-half minutes to dispel many of those sentiments, however, when two goals allowed Hungary to cast aside the Austrians and vault to the top of the group.

Hungary coach Bernd Storck described the victory as a dream come true, while his Austrian counterpart Marcel Koller felt nerves had played a part in their defeat.

Ice in their veins

Speaking of minnows, Iceland are the smallest nation ever to reach these finals and were largely expected to be little more than cannon fodder for their opponents.

But you try telling that to Iceland and their 330,000-strong population. Keep in mind this is a side that beat the Netherlands home and away in the qualifying phase.

Unperturbed by going a goal down in the first half, Iceland rallied for a 1-1 draw in their tournament opener against world No.8 Portugal, a side ranked 26 places higher.

Cristiano Ronaldo was less than gracious in defeat and a few members of the Iceland team couldn't resist some not-so-subtle digs at the Portuguese superstar after the match.

One even suggested their intention before the match wasn't just to get a point against Portugal, but to beat them. Impressive stuff!
