Euro 2016: FFT's Singapore Bulletin, Day 7

We're barely a week into the tournament and Russia's Euro 2016 hopes are already hanging by a thread, while Switzerland fought back to boost their qualification hopes and hosts France flexed their muscles against Albania...

Slovaks make a statement

When the draw for Euro 2016 made, the attention in Group B largely centred around a likely battle between England and Russia for top spot.

There was also intrigue in how Gareth Bale would perform for Wales, while little room was spared for Slovakia.

But the Slovaks care not for sentiment, rebounding from their opening loss to the Welsh with a deserved 2-1 win over the Russians overnight, led by impressive attacking midfielder Marek Hamsik.

Swiss miss chance to progress

Coming off an opening victory over Albania, Switzerland could have secured passage to the second round with another triumph over Romania.

Instead, they were probably happy to share the spoils after recovering from a goal down to record a 1-1 draw.

French flags flying high

Host nation France had no such troubles guaranteeing their spot in the round of 16, although there were some nervy moments in their 2-0 victory against Albania.

It took a 90th minute goal from Antoine Griezmann for the home fans to erupt, with early player-of-the-tournament contender Dimitri Payet adding some gloss in the sixth minute of injury time.
