FFT's 2015 Team of the Year – Defenders

It's nearly the end of another year and so much has happened in Southeast Asian football in 2015. Across December FourFourTwo will release the nominees for our SEA Team of the Year, compiled by our regional representatives, before announcing a final 11 at year's end. Next up are the defenders.

Madhu Mohana

Madhu endured a disappointing year in 2014, battling inconsistent form with the LionsXII and subsequently missing the year-end AFF Suzuki Cup with Singapore due to a hamstring injury.

  • Age: 24
  • Country: Singapore
  • Club: LionsXII
  • National team appearances: 11

But heading into 2015, with Safuwan Baharudin going off on loan to Melbourne City and Afiq Yunos out through long-term injury, Madhu stepped into the void in the LionsXII’s central defence and put in a series of solid displays for Fandi Ahmad’s side.

The long-throw specialist then forged an excellent partnership with Baihakki Khaizan for Bernd Stange’s Lions, most notably in the incredible goalless draw against Japan in Saitama back in June.

It looks like Madhu is finally beginning to realise the potential which led to him drawing comparisons with Singapore’s ‘Captain Marvel’, Terry Pathmanathan. – Kenneth Tan
