FFT’s S.League 2016 review: The Bright Lights

The 21st S.League season has now concluded, with Albirex Niigata (S) setting history. Which players have exceeded expectations in the second half of the season? FourFourTwo run the rule…

We are part of The Trust Project What is it?

Iqbal Hussain (Hougang United)

For years, Iqbal Hussain has been touted as a potential Singapore star after impressing many as he came through the youth ranks. However, injuries meant that he hardly got going, be it with the Young Lions or the LionsXII.

After joining Hougang United at the start of the season, there were the same fears as he struggled to make an impact in the first half of the season.

Iqbal however, came good after the midseason break and eventually finished 2016 with six goals and eight assists in just 24 total appearances.

That run of form resulted in him being called up to the national team as well, and he is set to be included in the AFF Suzuki Cup Singapore squad.
