FourFourTwo Player Ratings: Felda United 0 LionsXII 0

Who stood out during the LionsXII’s 0-0 stalemate with Felda United on Saturday? Deepanraj Ganesan hands down his verdict on Fandi’s men.

We are part of The Trust Project What is it?

Izwan Mahbud 8

Izwan would have been surprised that he was not tested more, given the LionsXII were up against a team that had netted eight goals in their last three league matches. Nevertheless, the goalkeeper was vocal at the back in organising his young defence, which proved invaluable to his side earning the clean sheet. A 67th minute save at point blank range from Ndumba Makeche was game-saving.

Nazrul Nazari 8

Nazrul shined in his right-back position yet again and was vital in the LionsXII earning their clean sheet. This time, he got forward at will and used his pace well. As Nazrul gets used to his new role, overlapping runs will become a natural part of his game and he will he hoping to use his pace to even more devastating effect.

Zulfahmi Arifin 9

A surprise starter at centre-back after Afiq Yunos was ruled out of the match, Zulfahmi turned in a rock solid performance. A well timed interception and show of strength to clear the ball to safety after Felda United broke forward on the counter epitomised his faultless display.

Madhu Mohana 10

Crucial blocks, last-ditch tackles and well-read interceptions – Madhu brought out the full repertoire of his defending tools tonight in a man of the match performance at the heart of the defence .The defender, who turned 24 on Friday, certainly celebrated his birthday in style as he clocked up a magnificent display for the LionsXII and was even unlucky to have an emphatic header wrongly ruled out for offside. Safuwan who?

Hafiz Sujad 7

Showed a couple of great touches and like his fellow defenders was solid at the back. He did get booked for a rash tackle just outside the box but it was otherwise a capable performance from the left back.

Firdaus Kasman 8

Firdaus turned in the best performance out of the midfield trio as he showed tenacity and steel in a dogged display. As seen from previous matches, Firdaus has the quality to pick out excellent passes, and he showed it again against Felda with great through balls to release both Gabriel and Faris. Firdaus also did well in tracking back and harrying the opposition midfielders when not in possession of the ball.

Isa Halim (c) 6

Set up by Khairul Amri in the second half, Isa lashed at the ball from just outside the box and only to see it whisker just past the post. Sadly, that was as good as it got for the LionsXII captain. In the second half, Isa was mostly invisible, so much so that Zulfahmi and Madhu found themselves stepping out of defense on more than one occasion to harry the Felda United midfielders. The positive was that Isa’s distribution was on point but he needs to find his form quickly if the LionsXII want to climb up the table.

Izzdin Shafiq 6

Like his fellow midfielders, Izzdin certainly put in a shift in the middle of the park. Given Izzdin's quality, he should be stamping his authority in matches but was sometimes a pedestrian as the Felda United midfielders were showing a more physical side to their game. He did get stuck in the closing minutes though as Felda poured forward.

Gabriel Quak  7

Was involved in LionsXII’s best chances, as he ran at the Felda United defence and even got past goalkeeper Farizal before losing his footing. Minutes later, he scooped a shot just past the post with only the goalkeeper to beat. A decent outing for the winger but will have to do much better to turn his promise into potent performances for the LionsXII.

Faris Ramli 7

The wide man was full of trickery and running but it was his delivery which stood out on the night. An excellent free kick in the first half found Madhu and the defender’s header was chalked off erroneously for offside. Faris was however guilty of going for goal on a few occasions when passing the ball would have been the better option.

Khairul Amri  6

The LionsXII forward found himself with his head in his hands on multiple occasions and that summed up his performance on the night. Had good chances to put the visitors in the lead, especially from set piece situations but was unable to convert them into goals for his side. Came closest with a 25 yard free-kick which rocked the bar.

Sahil Suhaimi 6

Replaced Faris Ramli in the second half but apart from a run which saw him get past two opponents, failed to get much of a sniff at the ball.

Syafiq Zainal  N.A

Came on with four minutes of the game to go as he replaced a jaded Khairul Amri.
