Fans chanted, sang and waved banners from the stands as coach Massimiliano Allegri led his team in half an hour of training drills before forming them into two teams and playing a small-sided game.

The loudest cheers were reserved for some of the fan favourites, with midfielders Paul Pogba and Andrea Pirlo showing flashes of their skill throughout the evening.

Arturo Vidal engaged in some light fitness work on the sidelines as he continuted his rehabilitation after injury, but was well enough to join in the game towards the end of practice.

The Manchester United target looked none the worse for wear though, pumping his fists in apparent delight after finishing off a delightful move with an assured finish past the goalkeeper.

Excited fans were allowed closer to the pitch as their heroes came over after the game for autographs and photos, with the likes of Patrice Evra and Pogba staying on long after most of their teammates had left so they could oblige their adoring supporters.
