Goodbye Stipe, Hello Sano? Home United could turn to White Swans marksman

He edged out Stipe Plazibat in the race for the 2017 S.League top scorer’s award and Tsubasa Sano himself could be the man the Protectors turn to with the profilic Plazibat set to depart for Thailand’s Bangkok Glass...

We are part of The Trust Project What is it?

FourFourTwo understands that Sano, who finished the recently concluded campaign with 26 goals in the league, is Home United’s top target for next season to replace Plazibat.

But this will be dependant on the number of foreigners each S.League club is allowed to sign, as Home United's remaining foreign players Song Uiyoung and Sirina Camara are currently on two year contracts.

Right now, because we have not heard from FAS (Football Association of Singapore) about the official rules for teams next season, we have a Plan A and Plan B

- Aidil Sharin

Speaking to FourFourTwo, Home coach Aidil Sharin said: “Right now, because we have not heard from FAS (Football Association of Singapore) about the official rules for teams next season, we have a Plan A and Plan B.”

Elaborating, he continued: “If the rule is that we can only have two foreigners, then we will have to find a local alternative."

“We currently have Amiruldin (Asraf) and (Khairul) Nizam but we definitely will need one more especially because Nizam is out injured till May at least.

“Plan B of course, is if we can sign one more foreigner then we will look to sign what I feel is the best replacement for Stipe.

“Sano of course is a special player as we saw this season but I can’t comment further than that. We will have to wait and see.”

Plazibat enjoyed a stellar season for the Protectors as he notched 38 goals and 14 assists in all competitions this year and his imminent departure will prove to be a huge blow especially as Home look to compete once again in the AFC Cup next season.

When contacted by FourFourTwo, an Albirex spokesman declined comment.

A source has told FFT  Sano is the first choice in a three-man shortlist that Aidil has drawn up in his pursuit to replace Plazibat. The other two names are Global FC’s Trinidadian forward Darryl Roberts and Ceres-Negros’ Spanish hitman Fernando Rodriguez.

When contacted by FourFourTwo, an Albirex spokesman declined comment.
