Home Player Ratings: Protectors' scoring prowess makes up for horror goalkeeping

Stand-in goalkeeper Eko Putra had an AFC Cup debut to forget but luckily for him, his teammates were lethal in front of goal to give Home a vital win...

Eko Putra 3

With Home United’s captain and Singapore International Hassan Sunny sidelined due to injury, up stepped 24-year-old Eko Pradana Putra in between the sticks. However, it would be safe to say that this has to be a game to forget for the custodian.

He was, simply put, a ball of nerves throughout the 90 minutes. Whenever Than Quang Ninh players took a shot, there was genuine fear that the ball will end up in the back of the net.

He was especially culpable for Than Quang Ninh’s second goal and fourth goal - a header from outside the box from Van Hieu and a lobbed free-kick from Nghiêm Xuân Tú. Eko should thank his forwards for being ruthless and efficient in front of goal today.

Juma’at Jantan 6

Than Quang Ninh’s first goal came from Juma’at’s own goal. With just Patiyo Tambwe behind him, it seemed like nervousness took over the veteran right-back as his clearance somehow ended up in the back of the net.

Apart from that mistake, Juma’at was steady enough going forward with his crosses finding his team-mates on a couple of occasions.

Afiq Yunos 6

After his struggle with injuries, Afiq finally played his first full 90 minutes for Home United — the first game he has completed since playing for Tampines against Young Lions last October.

Yet the centre-back's return was arduous to say the least, having to cover for Sirina Camara when the French defender bombarded forward.

But he managed to adapt quickly to the situation as he bailed out both his anxious keeper and full-back on a couple of occasions.

Abdil Qaiyyim 6.5

Dealt with Congolese striker Patiyo Tambwe well and kept him silent for most part.

Was key in leading the team and his backline in playing the offside trap, but Abdil could have done better for the hosts' opener.

Just like Afiq, he was vital in defence to ensure that the hosts did not score more against his nervy keeper.

Sirina Camara 5

On Saturday, his last-ditch tackle inside the box in the dying minutes of the game against Albirex resulted in him conceding a penalty.

However, this did not stop Camara from producing a similar effort tonight and it ended up being the match-winning tackle, as he prevented Nguyễn Xuân Hùng from scoring with just seconds remaining.

Having said that, Camara still needs to work on his positioning during a game as he left Afiq exposed to the threat of counter attacks and was also easily beaten by Nghiêm Xuân Tú. The first two goals came from the left-hand side when Camara was caught out of position by Nguyễn Thanh Hiền.

Khairul Nizam 7.5

Nizam started this nine-goal thriller with the finest of goals. When Izzdin Shafiq floated in an inch-perfect through ball to Nizam, many would have thought ‘don’t you dare!’ but dare he did as his stupendous volley was fired right into the bottom corner, leaving Huỳnh Tuấn Linh with no chance.

After the goal, he continued working tirelessly till the hour mark, when he suffered an injury and was substituted by Marijan Suto.

Izzdin Shafiq 7.5

In the first 20 minutes or so in the game, Izzdin was spraying the most well-thought through balls. He found Nizam, Plazibat and Faris on plenty of situations.

But he found it difficult to do so when Than Quang Ninh’s coach Phan Thanh Hùng threw more bodies into midfield.

Pairing Adam Swandi in midfield, it was quite evident that the new partnership had its flaws, but Izzdin did well enough with a few good tackles apart from his trademark through balls.

Adam Swandi 6

Adam, like Izzdin, had a great start to the game. However, he was not influencing the game as well as the other midfielders were and eventually went missing in the later stages of the game, especially when the goals kept coming.

Faris Ramli 9

Faris was a livewire throughout the game. It was perhaps his best game of the season so far with two assists for Stipe. He did well to get past the defenders and held the ball well for his team.

Stipe Plazibat 10

The in-form striker added another four goals today. He was especially needed today when the defence was leaking in goals for fun. That the goals came at crucial moments of the game when Than Quang Ninh threatened to make a comeback only made his contribution all the more vital.

Amiruldin Asraf 8

Did well in his first start of the season with Stipe as he held up the ball and pressured well against the hosts.
