Kamarulzaman Hassan

Then 22, the custodian’s international career took a turn for the worse after his howler in the final, deflecting Sarawut Treephan’s cross into his goal in the dying minutes to decide the outcome of the match.

Kamarulzaman, who was dropped from the national team earlier that year for a late night out at a disco, stayed in Penang until 2003 before having spells at Sarawak, Malacca and the now-defunct Proton FC.

The lanky Penangite has become a coach since hanging up his boots, starting at KL SPA until the club dissolved in 2015. Kamarulzaman joined FAM League side AirAsia (now PJ Rangers) in 2016.

Irwan Fadzli Idrus

Among the youngsters injected into the squad and later the national team by Harris, Irwan went on to represent Malaysia at numerous competitions.

The left-sided defender was also part of the Tigers’ squad at the the 2002 Asian Games, 2002 Tiger Cup, 2004 Olympic qualifiers and the 2007 AFF Cup.

In club football, Irwan won trophies at Pahang, Negeri Sembilan and ATM. He was also the man of the match in the 2013 Sultan Ahmad Cup curtain raiser between the 2012 Malaysia Premier League (MPL) winners ATM and Malaysia Super League (MSL) champions Kelantan.

Irwan returned to Negeri in 2015 before being released at the end of the season. He is now 35 and has been looking for a club after returning to full fitness. He trialled at top-flight club PKNS in May without earning a contract.

Kaironnisam Sahabudin

The centre-back went on to establish himself as a Malaysia international for several years, making over 50 appearances until 2008.

He was part of the Perlis side that won the Malaysia Cup in 2004 and the MSL in 2003. He later moved to MPPJ, UPB-MyTeam and Felda United before playing for Johor FC (now Johor Darul Ta'zim) in 2012.

He returned to Felda in 2013 but fell out of favour with management, even being accused of lacking sportsmanship and failing to play to his best capabilities, leaving the club at the end of the season.
