My Perfect XI: R. Sasikumar
Goalkeeper: Rezal Hassan
He made some incredible saves in the Tiger Cup and for some of the stops, he made it look (like he did the) impossible.
Playing Lebanon away in (1998) World Cup qualifiers too, he pulled off an amazing save that you don’t see these days.
Right-back: Kadir Yahaya
I respect his workrate, discipline and all-round approach to the game.
Ironically, we almost came to blows (in the final) but he is the one who crossed for me to score in Tiger Cup. Even though we don’t see eye to eye, Kadir is the kind of defender you rather play with than against!
Centre-back: Mohammad Khakpour
I learned so much from him when I played together with him in Geylang.
He is the model pro, and played at the World Cup too. He was a very disciplined player and was built well for a centre-back.
Centre-back: S. Subramani
He’s not fancy. If you are a striker, you have to work really hard to get past him.
He was my roommate for many years and I can say that he is my best friend in football.
Left-back: Zulkarnaen Zainal
Not as fast or quick (as some others) but he’s a very steady left-back for me.
He was part of the winning team in 98’ and he is one of those who doesn’t let many people get past him.
