Singapore Player Ratings: Lions edge past Maldives for long-awaited win

We are part of The Trust Project What is it?

Shakir Hamzah 7.5

Playing at left wing-back, Shakir was his usual bustling self – linking up well with Faris Ramli and pushed forward at every given opportunity. While he lost the man for Maldives’ equaliser, he completed the night with a crisp volley that proved to be the difference between both sides.

Shawal Anuar 8

Undoubtedly Singapore’s best player of the night. Spurning an easy chance from three yards out early in the game, he did not let his head go down and caused danger with his pace each time he went forward. Was unlucky to see his left-footed volley come off the left-hand post on 29 minutes, before showing quick feet to earn the penalty which Shahdan converted.

Yasir Hanapi  6

Played out of position as a central forward, Yasir understandably struggled with the demands of the role and failed to hold up the play as much as he wanted. Did a little better when he was shifted out to the right flank later in the second half.

Faris Ramli 6

In fine form for PKNS this season, it was a rather disappointing night for the wide man as he failed to trouble the Maldives defender much. Only took one shot all night and it was a disappointing strike straight at Faisal.

Safuwan Baharudin 6

Came on for Faris on 70 minutes and did well to calm things in the middle of the park.

Anders Aplin 6.5

Replaced Irfan for his international debut on 73 minutes and played his part with a few clearances.

Adam Swandi N.A.

Replaced Shawal on 80 minutes and did well on one occasion to hold off two defenders before setting up a teammate.

Emmeric Ong N.A.

Came on for Nazrul on 82 minutes and managed to get a few good tackles in to disrupt the visitors’ play.

Izzdin Shafiq N.A.

Replaced Baihakki on 85 minutes and barely touched the ball.

Hafiz Sujad N.A.

Came on for Shakir in injury time to run down the clock.
