Stags make victorious return to Tampines Stadium

Tampines Rovers marked their return to Tampines Stadium with a 2-0 win over Brunei DPMM on Friday night and climbed to second in the league.

The Stags are now three points behind league leaders Albirex Niigata (S) and are a point ahead of third-placed Home United.

The hosts had chances to open the scoring several times, but were unable to take their chances until the 27th minute, when a glorious back by Fazrul Nawaz found Shakir Hamzah and the defender coolly lobbed goalkeeper Awangku Mu'izzuddi.

Tampines finally secured the win late in the game, with Ivan Dzoni earning a penalty in the 82nd minute. Shahdan Sulaiman stepped up to dispatch resulting spot-kick.

Fazrul had a chance to score himself four minutes later, but he shot over after bearing down on goal.

DPMM then had a chance to equalise in the 40th minute, but Azwan Saleh’s shot hit the post after meeting Daud Jared Alvarez’s cross and that marked the end of the first-half’s action.

After the break, Hafiz Sujad magnificently brought down a loose ball and let fly at goal but Awangku managed to parry the ball away in the 47th minute.

The returning Izwan Mahbud then came to his side’s rescue, as he stretched to tip away Adi Said’s scorcher from distance.

Tampines finally secured the win late in the game, with Ivan Dzoni earning a penalty in the 82nd minute. Shahdan Sulaiman stepped up to dispatch resulting spot-kick.
