Where are they now? Juventus' 2006/07 Serie B winning side

Ahead of the tantalising Juventus Napoli clash in the Serie A on Friday (Italy time), FourFourTwo takes a look at the Juve side who will go down in history as the greatest ever to play in the Serie B, after their enforced relegation because of the Calciopoli scandal, and finds out what they are up to these days...

Gianluigi Buffon

Not many will disagree that Buffon ranks among the best goalkeepers of all time, with the Italian shot-stopper playing at the highest level for 20 years and counting.

But 2006 was a strange year for him, having won the World Cup with Italy, but being relegated to the Serie B with Juventus.

The 39-year old is a Juventus player till today, and most recently won the 2017 Serie A player of the year, highlighting that old is indeed gold.

Winning that one honour that has eluded him all these years, the Champions League, would be a fitting end to an illustrious career for the current Juve skipper.

Alessandro Birindelli

The retired right-back enjoyed a successful 11-year career at the Old Lady, winning 5 Serie A titles, of which two were stripped away due to the Italian football scandal of 2006.

He played a crucial role in the 2006-2007 season as the club’s vice captain, with 37 league appearances.

Unfortunately, that season ended up being his last notable contribution, with Birindelli only appearing seven times upon their promotion to Serie A .

His career took a downward turn upon his move away from Juventus, which included a stint at Serie C club Valle del Giovenco.

Post-retirement in 2010, he is thought to have gone into football management, with the hope that he can replicate the success he had as a player.
