The young gun – M Anumanthan, Hougang United
Highly-rated, the youngster is just as keen to further the claims of his new club as he is to advance his own career.
“I really want to help raise the profile of Hougang, we don’t want to be seen as the wooden-spooners any more,” the 21-year-old told FourFourTwo.
“We have signed good players, we have a good coaching team this year, and I can feel the hunger in my teammates. We are all looking to raise our game and produce good performances to propel the club to a good position in the table.”
The man known as ‘Anu’, who received offers from six other clubs, chose to sign for Hougang as he was convinced by the club’s vision.
“I spoke to all the clubs that were interested in me and mulled through the offers carefully,” he said.
I chose Hougang in the end because I believed in their vision and their target. They are a real heartland club with fantastic fans and that spoke to my heart.

Anu also asserted that he was not expecting to walk into the Hougang team.
“It’s my first season out of the FAS set-up. It’s very different, all the players here are adults and there are a lot of things I have to learn.
“I know I am not assured a first team spot. Although I have played in defence before, midfield is my favoured position and there are many good midfield players like Raihan (Rahman) and Fumiya (Kogure) in Hougang.
“So I have to fight for my place in the team, every training session, week in week out, like everyone else.”
