Birthday boy Sundram wishes greatness for Singapore
Singapore head coach V.Sundramoorthy says his birthday wish is to bring success to the Lions after years of less-than-ideal results.
The former LionsXII head coach turned 51 on Thursday and was presented with a birthday cake at the Singapore-Malaysia pre-match press conference, where he expressed his desire to improve Singapore’s level of football.
"My wish is to help Singapore football and try to bring the team together and work as a unit, try to have success for the nation, that's important. Thank you,” he told those present at the press conference.
Sundram’s next and perhaps most important test to date will be against Malaysia at the the National Stadium on October 7.
There was some talk of this being an easy match for the Lions, as Malaysia head coach Ong Kim Swee had called up a relatively inexperienced squad, but Singapore head coach Sundram cautioned against complacency while asking his side to go for a win.
“It will be a hard game, we are playing Malaysia and Malaysia are coming here to prepare themselves for the AFF Suzuki Cup too.
“(Malaysia having new faces) can be good, it can be bad. The younger plays might want to prove themselves. We will start 11 vs 11, so it’s going to be a tight game.
“For us, the AFF is our target so we will go out there in every game and we will play our best and try to instill a winning mentality in the boys that will be good for the long run.”
