Brunei DPMM line up move for Tampines Rovers’ Billy Mehmet

Former West Ham trainee Billy Mehmet has been linked with a move to the Bruneian side after impressing in the S.League this season…

Tampines Rovers marksman Billy Mehmet is set to leave the Stags after reportedly catching the interest of Brunei DPMM.

The former West Ham trainee has scored 18 goals and made 14 assists this season so far for Tampines, helping them secure second place in the S.League.

Mehmet was also pivotal in Tampines’ run to the AFC Cup quarter-finals and he could end up with a medal around his neck as the Stags face Albirex Niigata (S) in the Singapore Cup final.

The 31-year-old has carved out a solid career in this part of the world, previously representing clubs in Thailand, Australia and Malaysia, among others, prior to making the move to Singapore.

Although the season is yet to end, DPMM announced the signing of Mehmet on its club website, as well as the extension of star striker Rafael Ramazotti’s contract for the 2017 season.

Currently, the S.League only allows each team to have a maximum quota of three foreign imports.

The announcement means that either Brian McLean or Paulo Sergio — the two other foreigners in DPMM currently — would be released come the end of the season.
