DPMM and Albirex Niigata to kick-off the new S.League season
Scheduled for Saturday, February 13 at Jalan Besar Stadium, there will be much at stake for the two teams as the fixture will double as a league game and points will be counted.
This will be the first time the Charity Shield will be played between two foreign sides. Last year, Warriors FC ran out 1-0 winners against Balestier Khalsa, courtesy of Nicolas Velez’s first-half goal.
Another three games will be played in the first round of fixtures. On Sunday, February 14, development side Young Lions will entertain Balestier Khalsa at Jalan Besar Stadium, while there will be an intriguing 'Uniformed Derby' between Home United and Warriors FC over at Bishan Stadium.
Then on the Monday, title favourites Tampines Rovers will host a revamped Geylang International side at the Jurong West Stadium in what could be one of the most exciting ‘Eastern Derbies’ in years.
Due to the new nine-team format, Hougang United will sit out the first round of fixtures. Their first game of the 2016 season will be against Home United on Thursday, February 18 at Hougang Stadium.
Only fixtures up until the end of April have been revealed so far and you can see those matches right here.
