Emerald EPL Masters Tour to kick off in Phuket on 7 August

Team of former English Premier League stars will take on a Thai legends side at Sarakul Stadium in Phuket.

The Emerald EPL Masters Tour will be kicking off in two months, bringing some well known football names to the idyllic island resort of Phuket.

It is a chance for Asian football fans to catch some legends of the game in action, as they take on a Thai selection that will be announced shortly.

Former England and Manchester United star Paul Parker is excited for it to begin, not least because he'll be managing the EPL Masters side.

"You don't really manage them because all these players they've had a minimum of 15 years in football and they've had great names managing them," he said.

"So Paul Parker comes along as manager, and all I'm doing more than anything is sitting and talking to people and doing all the little bits of sponsorship and media stuff while they enjoy themselves.

"I might try my best to pick a starting eleven but I do that with the help of the players as well."

Phuket might be known more for its tourist attractions rather than for its football, but Parker is adamant that the ex-pros are there to entertain the crowds that will surely turn up to watch them display their craft.

"Coaching wise you don't coach them, all you ask the players for is first and foremost to give the people out there a decent show," he said.

"You give them goals and show them passion, and not just travel thousands and thousands of miles just to walk around think it's just easy."

While the roster has yet to be completely finalised, there are already plenty of eye-catching names in the touring squad, with many Premier League teams well represented.

"David James has played a lot of times for England - I've played in a few tournaments and games in Asia and we've never had a goalkeeper of that magnitude," Parker said.

"Lee Sharpe's a regular in Asia but Rob Lee and Teddy Sheringham, they're quite new to this part of the world.

"And then there's obviously the two Dutch lads - if anyone sees Pierre van Hooijdonk play, they'll start asking why isn't he still playing now.

"Because he's that good now; I don't think you appreciate and respect how good a player is till you see him after he's finished playing and then you realise how good they are."
