Football giants Bayern, Chelsea and Inter all set to shine in Singapore

German giants Bayern Munich, likely English Premier League champions Chelsea and Italian royalty Inter Milan will all be on display in Singapore in July this year.

The three footballing behemoths are all participating in this year's International Champions Cup (ICC), which for the first time will be making a stop at Singapore's Sports Hub.

The details were announced at a press event at Singapore's Mandarin Oriental Hotel on Thursday, with players the calibre of Eden Hazard, Thomas Muller, Diego Costa and Arjen Robben potentially going to be on show.

The ICC has become an integral part of the pre-season plans of some of the world's biggest clubs, previously making stops in the United States, China and Australia.

Now it is venturing into Southeast Asia for the first time, announcing a four-year agreeement on Thursday to hold matches in Singapore.

Trophy-winning former players Tore Andre Flo (Chelsea), Hasan Salihamidzic (Bayern) and Francesco Toldo (Inter) were all on hand for today's press event.

"We are very happy to be part of ICC 2017 in Singapore," said Salihamidzic, who won a collection of trophies in Munich, including the 2001 Champions League.

"We'll be playing some very good teams, we have a lot of fans in Asia and we hope they will come from Malaysia, Indonesia, and support our team in the stadium."

Flo, who won an FA Cup and League Cup during his time at Stamford Bridge, echoed those thoughts.

"It's going to be very important for Chelsea," Flo said. "We're playing against two very good teams, it's also in a very important time of the pre-season, just before the season starts."

Antonio Conte's Blues are likely to hit Singapore as reigning Premier League champions, as they currently have a 10-point lead over Tottenham and Manchester City with just 11 games left in the season.

"The ICC has revolutionised the pre-season touring experience for the world's biggest and best football clubs and we are pleased to expand the event and bring the tournament to Southeast Asia," said Patrick Murphy, president and chairman of organisers Catalyst Media Group.

Bayern are on track to extend their remarkable record by securing a fifth consecutive Bundesliga crown and are also in the Champions League semi-finals, while three-time European champions Inter have enormous global support.

The matches will be held in a round robin format at Singapore's National Stadium, opening with Chelsea vs Bayern on July 25, followed by Bayern vs Inter (July 27) and Chelsea vs Inter (July 29).

They will be the first mega-clubs to hit Singapore since Arsenal, Everton, Stoke City and the Singapore national team packed out the Sports Hub for the Barclays Asia Trophy in 2015.

Tickets go on sale on March 30 and will be available from www.sportshubtix.sg, the Sports Hub Box Office and all Singapore Post outlets.

Tickets start from $25 for children and $40 per adult.
