Fulham, Perth Glory, Lisbon and Penang all heading to next week’s JSSL 7s

Asia's biggest youth football competition, the JSSL Singapore International Soccer 7s, will kick-off once more across five venues in Singapore next week.

Held from April 29 to May 1, this year’s edition features a bumper 260 teams from 15 countries battling it out over five venues.

The group stage and knock out matches will be played at UWC East Tampines, Turf City, The Arena and Stamford American School, with the semi-finals and finals to be held at the lush Padang pitch.

Approximately 3000 boys and girls between the ages of nine to 16 will represent various academies from the close proximity of Southeast Asia to the far reaches of Europe and South America.

The JSSL Singapore International Soccer7s has set the benchmark of youth football competitions and this fifth edition will feature professional academy teams from Sporting Lisbon, Fulham FC, Perth Glory, Penang FA, Bangkok United and JSSL FC competing for the first time.

These academies consist of elite youth players, some of whom are on the verge of professional contracts.

To add to the excitement, this year the finalists of the Under-16 boys’ competition will have a chance to pit themselves against the acadmey players in a knockout quarter-final format.

"The six professional academies participating in a freshly created category will create a refreshing sense of excitement and uniqueness to this year's event,” said Harvey Davis, managing director of JSSL Singapore.

“It will be a fantastic experience for the under-16 boys teams that qualify to play against them. We are hoping to increase the participation of such academies next year, but for now we're focused on enjoying this year's JSSL Singapore International Soccer 7s." 

Aside from the array of fine young talent on display, another reason to attend the JSSL Singapore International 7s will be the chance to rub shoulders with former Liverpool and Leicester City striker Emile Heskey, who will be the tournament’s guest-of-honour.
