Hariss, Stange to miss Asian Games

Singapore midfielder Hariss Harun has been left out of the Asian Games squad departing for Incheon on Thursday.

Johor Darul Takzim had been reluctant to release the 24-year-old due to their Malaysia Cup commitments and it appears the Lions have not included him in the travelling party.

LionsXII defender Afiq Yunos (24) has been added to the team as the third over-aged player alongside goalkeeper Hassan Sunny (30) and defender Baihakki Khaizan (30).

Head coach Bernd Stange will also be missing the trip through illness, with assistant coach Aide Iskandar having deputised during the two friendly matches against Papua New Guinea and Hong Kong.

The 20-man squad has few other surprises, apart from fleet-footed LionsXII winger Nazrul Nazari being added in place of Courts Young Lions forward Stanely Ng, while over-age players Fazrul Nawaz, Izwan Mahbud and Shahdan Sulaiman are staying at home after featuring in the previous two friendly encounters.

Full-back Shakir Hamzah seems to be on the comeback trail from injury too, having made the final cut despite not playing since limping off during LionsXII's loss to JDT II on August 26.

Singapore will face Tajikistan on Sunday afternoon in their first group game, before taking on Oman on Wednesday and Palestine the following Sunday.
