Juventus arrive in Singapore

The Italian fever is well and truly on in Singapore.

Juventus Football Club players and staff arrived at Changi Airport just after 6pm and promptly headed off to the waiting bus. A strong crowd of almost 200 people had gathered in anticipation of the Italian champions.

Fans of the Old Lady had come from all around the region in a bid to catch a glimpse of the stars. One such fan was Frans Cornelius, 24, a student who had flew in from Indonesia. Juventus had started their Asia Tour in Indonesia in an 8-1 victory over the Indonesia Super League All Stars side. But for Cornelius, a chance to watch the match in what will be the Sports Hub’s first football match was an opportunity not to be missed. “I didn’t want to buy the tickets in Indonesia because the seats are far away from the pitch so I caught the match on the TV. But the moment the tickets for the Singapore match were announced, I bought the best seats!”

One of the first players to walk out of the arrival hall was Claudio Marchisio. The Italian midfielder stopped to do some duty-free shopping before re-joining his teammates as they sashayed out to the delight and shrieks of the adoring Juventus fans.

Another of the players that most fans had come to see was former Manchester United stalwart, Patrice Evra. When asked by FFT on how he felt to be in Singapore in the final leg of their Asia Tour, the Frenchman smiled and gave us the thumbs up.

19 year old Manchester United supporter, Irshad Angullia had come to catch a glimpse of the former Old Trafford stars, Patrice Evra, Paul Pogba and Carlos Tevez. On the chance to see his heroes up close, he said: “I bought the most expensive tickets to the match but I had to be here to see them right before me!”

Some had even prepared gifts for the stars of the Old Lady. Arturo Vidal, linked with a move away from Juventus, was given a bouquet of flowers by a group of fans from China. Perhaps, a flowery farewell for the Chilean.

Juventus will take to the field to face a Singapore Selection side at the Sports Hub on 16th August in what is the final leg of their Asia tour.

Tickets to the Singapore Selection vs Juventus FC match are still available via SportsHubTix.
