LionsXII to return to Jalan Besar fortress
The LionsXII will return "home" for their weekend clash against Selangor FA after the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) confirmed Jalan Besar Stadium as the venue on Tuesday evening.
The Malaysian Super League (MSL) champions had to use Bishan Stadium as a temporary home in recent weeks due to renovation and re-turfing works at their usual home ground, although it did not seem to affect them when they beat DRB-Hicom FC 3-0 to register their first victory of the season on Tuesday night.
Saturday's game against Selangor was originally scheduled to be played at Bishan as well, but new coach Fandi Ahmad will now get the chance to lead his team out at Jalan Besar for the first time after works were completed earlier than expected.
"Due to the efficient re-turfing works at Jalan Besar Stadium, which was completed ahead of schedule, FAS is able to move the match venue back to Jalan Besar Stadium in order to accommodate more fans to be able to catch the match and offer their support to the team," a FAS statement read.
Fandi was pleased to hear of the switch back to a venue where the LionsXII dropped points only once in an unbeaten home record last season, which ultimately played a key part in their MSL title win.
"“I am excited at the prospect of playing our first home league match at the Jalan Besar Stadium," he said in the same statement. "More fans will be able to come to give their support to the team, and we have seen how vital their support has been to our success.”
The game will kick-off at 7.45p.m and fans who have purchased grandstand tickets for the match at Bishan Stadium can utilise the same ones for entry.
Concession and gallery tickets will go on sale from 12p.m onwards on Wednesday. For further ticketing enquiries, fans can call 6296-2929 or email email@example.com.
