Lopez leaves Home after 19 years, Wong appointed chairman

Home United will have a new chairman going into the 2017 season, after deputy chairman Winston Wong was appointed as Anselm Lopez’s replacement.

The change has been in place since January 1, bringing an end to Lopez’s 19-year association with the club.

Lopez was appointed a member of Home’s management committee way back in 1998, before becoming the club’s chairman in October 2012.

Home will hope that a change in management also represents a change in fortune, with the club hoping to end a 14-year S.League title drought

Since that time, Home reached three consecutive Singapore Cup finals from 2013 to 2015, winning one of them.

“HUFC would like to announce that with effect from 1 January 2017, Mr Winston Wong, Deputy Chairman HUFC, will succeed Mr Anselm Lopez as Chairman HUFC," the club said in a statement.

“We would like to take the opportunity to thank Mr Anselm Lopez for his invaluable contributions to the club during his tenure.

“HUFC wishes Mr Anselm Lopez the best of luck in his future endeavours and would like to once again express our gratitude for his contributions to the club and to Singapore football.”

Home will hope that a change in management also represents a change in fortune, with the club hoping to end a 14-year S.League title drought.

The Protectors are also fighting to qualify for the AFC Cup group stage this year, facing a two-legged qualifier against Phnom Penh Crown away on January 31 and at home on February 7.
