I am looking forward to leading my country out against the two-time FIFA World Cup champions and hope Singaporeans will come out in force to cheer us on
The match is part of a four-nation tour, with Argentina to face great rivals Brazil in Melbourne, Australia on June 9, with the Socceroos to take on Brazil in the same city on June 13, the same night the Argentines will meet Singapore at the Sports Hub.
Singapore coach V. Sundramoorthy said the match will represent an outstanding opportunity for his charges to test themselves against some of the world’s best.
“Argentina are one of the top international teams and have in their squad many world-class players such as Lionel Messi, Angel Di Maria and Sergio Aguero,” Sundram said in a statement.
“FAS has worked very hard to finalise the match, which will benefit our players and coaches in terms of invaluable exposure as well as enhance the level of sporting entertainment for fans in Singapore.
“I am looking forward to leading my country out against the two-time FIFA World Cup champions and we hope that Singaporeans will come out in force to cheer us on.
“A packed stadium on June 13 will make a huge difference and give our players the boost they need against a team with so many talented world-class players.”
It is more good news for Singapore fans, who will have an opportunity to watch Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Inter Milan as part of the International Champions Cup in July.
“We are delighted to host two-time World Cup and 14-time Copa America champions, Argentina, in a friendly match with Singapore Lions at the National Stadium in June,” said Singapore Sports Hub chief executive Manu Sawhney.
