MSL Wrap: Pahang, Selangor claim first wins
The Elephants broke the deadlock in first-half injury time when defender Zesh Rehman rose unmarked to nod a corner down and past the Sime Darby goalkeeper.
R. Gopinathan, who missed a glorious chance in the first 45 minutes, made sure he got his scoring boots on for the second half as he made it 2-0 five minutes before the hour mark.
The defeat means that Sime Darby are the only team yet to pick up a single point after four games, especially after ATM managed to salvage a 2-2 draw at Terengganu.
Two goals by Paulo Rangel initially gave the Turtles a 2-0 lead, but the Gladiators fought back via Jerry Palacios and Christie Jayaselan with less than half an hour to play.
Joining Pahang in notching their first league win of the season were Selangor, who ran riot at the Shah Alam Stadium and thrashed PDRM 4-1 thanks to goals by Ahmad Hazwan Bakri, Afiq Azmi, Abdul hadi Yahya and Guilherme De Paula.
Dramane Traore grabbed a consolation for the Police, who struggled to get past Syamim Othman standing in for first-choice goalkeeper Norazlan Razali.
In Johor Bahru, Safiq Rahim inspired the Southern Tigers to a 2-1 comeback win with two quick-fire goals after they fell behind to Billy Mehmet’s 27th minute strike.
The win saw the defending champions close the gap to just one point after joint-leaders Felda United and Perak were held to goalless draws by the LionsXII and Kelantan respectively.
