No Stipe? No problem, says Singapore Selection ahead of SOS Cup

The Singapore Selection squad is ready to fight for the Sultan of Selangor Cup (SOS) despite having to do so without the S.League’s top scorer, Stipe Plazibat.

The Croatian suffered a calf injury and had to withdraw from the squad, with Warriors FC's Jordan Webb called up as his replacement.

Singapore Selection assistant coach Nazri Nasir, who stood in for coach Fandi Ahmad at the pre-match press conference, believes they have a good blend of young and senior players for the game.

“The presence of Hariss Harun as the captain of the team will motivate the players more,” he said.

“We also have young players like Irfan Fandi and he has been training with the national team. Of course we have players like Shahril Ishak so it will help a lot for this upcoming game.”

Hariss is also looking to get more game time under his belt, especially since he has only played in four competitive fixtures since the 2016 AFF Suzuki Cup.

“The team is in good spirits, we worked together yesterday for a session and all of us are looking forward to the game tomorrow," he said.

“This Singapore team is the cream of the crop in the S.League … so this is going to be a high level. For me to be involved, it is good for me individually ... I am confident of putting in a good performance tomorrow.”

Singapore are the reigning champions and have won the title six times, while Selangor will be looking to claim their eighth title.
