Safuwan makes the switch to Malaysia with PDRM
Safuwan will join compatriot Hariss Harun (Johor Darul Ta’zim) in the MSL after inking a one-year deal with mid-table side PDRM, who are also in talks with former Pahang coach Zainal Abidin Hassan for his services.
Club general-secretary Datuk Fuad Abu Zarin confirmed the signing, for a club that has also added former Johor Darul Ta’zim to their books striker Andrezinho and retained the services of the Maldives’ Ali Ashfaq.
“We agreed to sign Safuwan after being impressed by his talents. He also had a three-month stint in the A-League and that experience could benefit our team,” said Fuad.
“We need a more complete team this year, especially after having a strong attack but weak defence in the 2015 season. Safuwan’s defensive capabilities will help us at the back as he can play in defence or midfield. We are still looking to sign another foreign player. Andrezinho joined yesterday (Thursday).”
Safuwan was forced to find a new club after LionsXII were disbanded following their exit from the MSL.
Fuad confirmed the talks to bring Zainal to PDRM, but insisted that Fauzi Pilus remains in charge until further notice.
“At the moment, we are prepared to go into the season with Fauzi. As for Zainal, I can’t say much … we’ll just have to see how things go,” he said.
Zainal is also in talks with Selangor, who announced several signings on Friday. Selangor have yet to commit to keeping Malaysia Cup-winning coach Mehmet Durakovic despite the Australian having a year left on his contract.
