Singapore U23 1 Azul Claro Numazu 2: Young Lions lose to Japanese semi-pros

The Singapore national Under-23 team did not enjoy the best of starts in their week-long Japan training tour when they lost 1-2 to fourth division side Azul Claro Numazu in Gomteba on Thursday.

Fielding an experimental starting eleven, their lack of cohesiveness was immediately exploited by Azul Claro as the hosts raced to a two-goal lead within the first 10 minutes.

The Young Lions replied four minutes before half-time when Irfan Fandi headed in a Ho Wai Loon cross to reduce the deficit.

Aide Iskandar rang in several changes as all members of the 25-man training squad, except the injured Pravin Gunasegaran, were given run outs against the Japanese semi-professionals.

The Young Lions will play the second and last friendly match in Japan when they take on Shizuoka Sangyo University on Saturday.
