Sundram tipping entertaining AFC Cup match against Ceres
The Filipino team has made quite an impression in the competition so far, earning four points from two games.
After holding Selangor to an impressive point at home, Ceres claimed their first win of the tournament by seeing off Sheikh Jamal 2-0 in Bangladesh.
As such, Sundram asserted he will play his best possible side.
Two games in four days is going to be tough, but we should be able to manage it
“Every game in the AFC Cup is going to be a difficult game. We know our opponents; they’ve been playing well and it will be a good entertaining game on Tuesday night,” he said.
“Tomorrow, I can’t reveal much about my game plan but honestly we will put our strongest team and try to get the three points.
“Especially playing at home, we would love to try and win the game.”
The Stags should have a fully fit squad available for the match as they were given a bye in the league last week.
Jermaine Pennant and Billy Mehmet also did not play against Selangor in the AFC Cup last match, so they are expected to be fresh and ready to start the match.
Tampines have to be mindful, however, they have another game on Saturday when they travel to Brunei to take on DPMM.
Nonetheless, Sundram is confident his side will be able to cope with the tight schedule.
“To play two games in like five days, it’s going to be tough but I think with a bigger squad like what we have, we should be able to manage it,” he added.
While Pennant’s availability certainly increased Ceres’ wariness of Tampines, midfielder Stephan Schrock believes his side cannot afford the former Liverpool winger too much respect.
“Of course, Pennant is a very experienced player and he proved his level and quality over so many years in the UK, so we can’t compare my side to him,” Schrock said.
“But you rather focus on 11 players than one guy on the pitch because it’s 11 players on the pitch and even Pennant can only show a good game if the other players play a good game.
“I think with four points after two games, we are in a very good position. We are clearly the underdogs in this group and match, but we are still proud and excited.”
