Don’t throw out your copy of FIFA 17 just yet! We’ve got five late tasks for you to complete
It’s September, and you know what that means – the start of football game season is upon us. FIFA 18 and PES 2018 will both be released within weeks, but until then we’ve still got some waiting around to do.
The best way to kill some time, then, is to complete some oft-ignored challenges. There are plenty of interesting tasks you probably haven’t thought to tackle thus far, so before you toss your copy of FIFA 17 to the curb, we’re challenging you to take on the following five ideas.
Who needs a social life anyway?
1. Break a Guinness world record
Want to maximise your last few moments with FIFA 17? Let’s get you in the record book, then. The Guinness World Records website documents a host of potential ideas, from netting the most goals on Legendary difficulty to scoring in the fastest amount of time.
Applying to complete a record is as simple as signing up on the site, and somewhat surprisingly, a selection of the tasks have seemingly not yet been attempted. Give it a go – you might just get yourself into the archives.
2. Grab every achievement/trophy

It might seem like a daunting task, but this isn’t so difficult in FIFA 17 – and by doing so, you’ll get your hands on those all-important 1,000 Gamerscore points/a PS Platinum Trophy.
Example challenges include winning the Women’s International Cup, signing a world-class player in Career Mode and, arguably toughest of all, reigning victorious across all four games in an online FUT Draft tournament. Channel your inner hero: you’ve got this.
3. Learn to play with manual controls
Everything from passing to shooting in FIFA remains partially assisted by default. As a result, certain hardcore fans who long for a simulation-style experience opt to play with fully manual controls. Unfortunately, however, this control scheme is anything but easy to get to grips with.
That’s OK – you’ve got some time on your hands. Try switching to manual (or even semi) controls for the final few weeks of FIFA 17’s lifespan, and you might just favour the new system by the time FIFA 18 rolls around.
4. Skill games: beat your friends’ scores
It’s always fun to get one over on your friends. And while you might not play FIFA 17 ever again, one of your pals is bound to at some point. Our suggestion? Remind them of your FIFA dominance by overtaking their scores on every single skill game.
FIFA 17’s skill games are varied and exciting enough to make this a worthy challenge. It’s even better when your friends get involved too – so start competing for the best scores and trying to out-do one another simultaneously.
5. Career mode: The Wexford Challenge
This is a classic challenge: take a side to the peak of world football by winning league, cup and Champions League titles. The only difference is that you’ll be taking control of the worst-rated team in the game (sorry, lads) – Wexford Youths.
Want to make this challenge even tougher? You could place the half-star-rated SSE Airtricity League side into a ‘super league’ format, incorporating the world’s very best teams. We think you’ll have enough on your plate, though – so you’d better get to work.
