FourFourTwo USA's 25 Best Coaches in American Soccer

Who are the best coaches in American soccer? Let us tell you.

Coaching is coaching, right? We found ourselves asking that very question as we thought about the best coaches in American soccer across all levels.

What is "American soccer," you ask? In short, it includes all the leagues and programs that call the United States home: U.S. Soccer national team programs, MLS, NWSL, USL, NASL, NCAA and beyond. We considered coaches from all of those areas of the game, and ranked them in order. To qualify, you simply have to be actively coaching in a U.S.-based league or within U.S. Soccer. So, yes, there are international coaches on this list and yes, a few out-of-work coaches in the American game are among our top free agents (we'll get to that). And, yes, there are a few Canada-based teams that play in U.S. first divisions. We included the coaches of those teams.

We'll be doing this countdown yearly, so the rankings are about the here and now. Each coach's qualifications can be found within the links below. Voters taking part in this process were Jeff Kassouf, Richard Farley, Paul Tenorio, Scott French, Charles Boehm, as well as a former MLS coach and a general manager, each of whom wished to remain anonymous. The FourFourTwo team also consulted several executives within the industry in comparing coaches across different leagues.
