West Brom and Wolves will renew hostilities in the latest edition of the Black Country Derby on Saturday.
Sam Allardyce oversaw a 1-1 draw with Liverpool in his second game in charge of the Baggies, but his side’s subsequent results show the scale of the job confronting him at The Hawthorns. A 5-0 thrashing by Leeds was followed by a 4-0 demolition at the hands of Arsenal, leaving West Brom firmly ensconced in the bottom three.
With almost half of the season having elapsed, Allardyce will need to start picking up some wins as soon as possible. West Brom are already six points adrift of safety and appear to lack quality at both ends of the pitch. No team in the division has conceded more than their 39 goals, while the Baggies have found the back of the net less often than anyone but Burnley and Sheffield United.

Wolves are going through a sticky patch, with Tuesday’s 2-1 loss to Everton meaning they have now gone five games without a win in the Premier League. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have fallen to 14th place as a result, and are now closer to the relegation zone than the top four. Perhaps the biggest concern is the loss of Wolves’ defensive solidity, with Nuno’s men without a clean sheet since October.
West Brom will have to make do without Conor Gallagher and Karlan Grant, while Conor Townsend and Hal Robson-Kanu are both doubts. Allardyce is likely to stick with the 4-1-4-1 formation used against Leeds and Arsenal despite the results on both occasions.
Wolves will be unable to call upon the services of Raul Jimenez, whose absence has hurt them immensely. Fernando Marcal, Adama Traore, Daniel Podence, Jonny Otto and Willy Boly are also out, leaving Nuno with plenty to think about.
